the 12-word story of you
my favorite writing exercise: the story of you in 12 words
use this exercise to connect with the truth
of who you are in this moment
write 12 words about who you are in this moment.
this can be a list, one long sentence, or short phrases.
there is no right or wrong way to do this.
1
• don’t overthink!
• the only rule: hyphenated words count as two words.
choose 6 words from the twelve.
write them below the 12 words.
2
• the only rule: keep the 6 words in their original order.
(see example for clarity)
choose 3 words from the six.
write them below the 6 words.
3
• the only rule: keep the 3 words in their original order.
(see example for clarity)
choose 1 word from the three.
…and that is the essence of you, in this moment.
4
example:
rising from a year that asked for more, I bring it all.
rising for more, I bring all.
rising, I bring.
rising.
what can you do with your word?

-
write it on your mirror
-
put it on a post-it note next to your computer
-
journal about what this word means to you
-
send it to a friend and share this exercise with them!
